my son (4) will be starting his second year of preschool next month and i would really like to work with him on things he should know and be learning. I was wondering if anyone knows where i can find something that can tell me what kinds of things they would be teaching him this year. No one is in our school offices for a few more weeks cuz i would call them for help. At one point i had a list of things, but i put it somewhere so i wouldnt lose it and guess what, i lost it! lol. TIA

Christy, I've found the series of books "What Your Child Needs to Know in..." helpful. Below is the link to amazon for the pre-school book.

I have been a Pre-K Aide for about 10 years and here are some things just off of the top of my head that our students learn.
Alphabet recognition (capital and lowercase) in and out of order.
    Each alphabet phonetic sound.
    Numbers 1-20 and counting objects.
Their left and right as well as left and right body parts (left ear, right leg etc.).
    Opposites, rhyming words.
Listening skills (tell you about a story that was read to them).
    Social and good character skills.
    Color, cut, and glue.
    Writiing their name.
Age appropriate Science and Social studies.

I work at a small private school and we also have bible stories for the children. ABEKA, a christian based curriculum for homeschooling, can usually be found on ebay.

    Hope this helps.

I have a scope and sequence for preschool that I used with all of my children. It is from a book now out of print called "Give Your Child a Superior Mind". I started using it when my children started talking, and they were all able to read before the age of 5, and do most of the the tasks on this list. I spent about 5 minutes each day with each child (I had 4 under 5 at one time). They each had their own set of homemade flash cards that I cut by hand and laminated. Wish I had had a cutter back in those days! I kept this list posted on my refrigerator so that I would remember what the next steps were. Here it is:

Is there any interest in sharing cutting files for making educational flash cards for preschoolers?
