I purchased MTC this morning as I love the layout and easy of use and the gallery option rocks.Never thought about testing the trace option before buying as I have had no problem tracing when using with SCAL.I hope we can figure the problem out as I like MTC better than SCAL well at least I did. :-(
Hi Tamimatta - welcome to the MTC family. A few people have the same issue. If you are able, can you start the trace, and when it freezes leave it alone for a while (even over night if you are able) to see if it ever responds back with the trace pixel dialog box? And if it does, can you finish the trace without delay/haning? While that is not a solution to your problem, the additional information may help lead to a fix. Also, can you provide which OS (XP, Vista, 7), how much memory you have, and if you know, whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit?
Ok I will try clicking trace pixel as I am going to bed right now and see if it ever loads. I did leave it for 15 minutes at least earlier and tried several times. I have not tried more than 1 file as it freezes right after I click the button so cannot get to any files period. I have 2 GB of ram and run windows XP 32 bit. I did not turn off my antivirus before installing and truly do not think that is the problem as I was never given any warning from my antivirus when installing and had no problems registering what so ever. My firewall was turned off when I installed. Wish me luck I will let you know more tomorrow morning. I have tons of my templates I want to convert to MTC. Thanks for your welcome and kindness much appreciated. :-)
Hi Tamimatta, I also have the same problem with the trace option with MTC on my desktop computer. It works perfectly on my laptop. I have finally figured out that if I leave the computer alone for several minutes (once it took 20 minutes!) the option for selecting the file I want to trace will appear. Once I select the file I then have another long wait. I have no idea why this is happening but I'm sure it has to be a setting or something on my desktop causing this and hope a fix will be found soon. Do you have another computer available to install MTC to see if the trace feature works correctly on it?
Well I left it on last night and after 16 minutes it open the box to browse for a picture. I can click any other button to import say a svg mtc scal etc and the box to browse pops right up. If I pick pixel trace I have to wait this morning it took 12 minutes to open the browse box. When I click pixel trace MTC uses 99% of my CPU usage. To think I though Microsoft was a memory hog. Holy cow that is crazy.I guess until they figure out a fix for it I will just use others MTC files. I wanted to make my own. :-( Pouting
There is no reason it should use that much of your memory.
Oh btw, have you tried shutting down your explorer through task manager FIRST? I think that's what K-lee has to do so here's doesn't lock on her and she's also running XP. That's a LOT of RAM for you to have on an XP computer though. Have you checked to see what your available RAM is BEFORE trying to use pixel trace?
You could also try making sure you have NOTHING else running. I believe someone said they even have to shut down their virus scan. It's not an MTC issue, it's the simple fact you don't have enough memory on your computer (if yours is the same problem) to be running as much as you are.
If you just purchased MTC this am - how did you figure out how to import images already saved on your computer that I am assuming you have since you already have a SCAL? Plus, how did you hook your computer up to your SCAL?
She doesn't have to hook her computer in to MTC or SCAL (that I know of). THe cricut simply hooks into the computer and you then open whatever program you want to use to cut from, just like with a printer, rather that be MTC, SCAL, or CDS.
As for how she's importing so fast MTC is EASY to use. All she has to do is click the GEAR and whichever choose for the file she wishes to import and she's there. OR she can pick a coloring page or image online click copy, open pixel trace, and click paste.
I really don't think its because there is not enough memory on my desktop causing this because it works fine on my laptop and it has less RAM than the desktop. There has to be a solution and I'm still trying to find it.
If you find the problem be sure to post, cuz I would love to get mine fixed too!!! Hate shutting off explorer and then run it again......someone else said they had a corrupt file in microsoft but never posted what or where and that fixed there's......are you getting an error message? I don't but they did.........I'm stumped too.......hope Bryan can figure this out!
There is nothing else running when I try to use the trace feature. I had thought about the firewall and virus scan and did a re-intall with both turned off. Apparently that wasn't the problem.
It's weird...something's hogging your memory resources, or they're allocated to something else.
I have XP, and 2.87GB of RAM on this old desktop, and I'm able to do traces of some pretty detailed images without lockup, and pretty quickly (i.e., the longest one is one with too much detail inside the shape that I forgot to "clean" before I traced and took 3 minutes)...and even with one or two other MS programs open.
So it sounds like it's something within your own PC setup????
I ran a "free" registry scan on my pc today and it found lots and lots of errors. The scan was the free part now I have to buy the program to repair the errors. I purchased this software before and now I can't find the registration key since my computer has been rebuilt after a crash. Guess I'll purchase it again soon and see if this helps. I did like this registry repair program when I had it before so I don't mind purchasing it again.
My problem is not actually with tracing when I finally get the window open to browse to the image I want to trace it traces fine. What I am having a problem with is when I click pixel trace it takes forever to open the browse window to pick an image to open to trace more than 10 minutes always and I can do nothing else until it finally opens. I do not understand why when I pick say to import anything else say import svg mtc or scal the window opens right up to browse for a file.
Oh I am sure that by turning of explorer it will work fine but I should not have to turn off explorer.I am trying to figure this out.I am sure I can as I am just that stubborn. ;-) Is MTC a 16 bit application any one know?I am going to try downloading and installing the demo on my netbook less ram but has windows 7 and see if it may be something XP runs that 7 doesn't.I will report back. :-) Can I run the program on my netbook and my computer or do I need to by another license?
BTW I sure wish I could change the title of this to computer freezes when I try to use pixel trace and not import trace.I think I am confusing people as to the problem I am having.
well that lady figured it out so I guess if you are determined enough you can to.LOL If you do will you please tell Klee.
Hey if it makes you feel any better I can NOT log into my own email via webmail. I am the ONLY person that can't apparently (have had several people try it) and Bryan and I worked for almost THREE hours last night and never did figure out why. We know it's MY computer we don't know what.LOL
Well it is something with my xp and nothing to do with ram.Just installed on netbook with just 1 GB of ram not 2 and I clicked pixel trace and all be damned the browse window just open right up.No problem at all. With explorer running and everything. ;-) Off to investigate. Will keep you updated if I figure it out.Is all people having the problem using XP? P.S.Thanks ever so much for changing the title description for me.You all are the best.
nope. I have an xp in the scraproom and it works great, Beanie has an XP I believe, Rach, and many many others. It's just something with a setting on your computer that you, Klee, and a few others have.
I believe the people I've talked to that have this problem are running XP. I wonder if it is something with the service packs. For those of you having this problem (K-Lee, Tamimatta, sshear) are you running XP and if so, what service pack are you on? (If it is SP 3, then it's not the service pack because my XP machine has SP 3 and it doesn't have this problem) Just a thought.
Bryan, I have xp home edition with service pk 3....so don't know......thanks for trying to figure this out for us all.........I'm not smart enough to go investigating for the problem, would probably blow up my computer, lol......
This is from another post.......I don't get an error code to look up
My problem as stated in previous post was not a MTC issue or antivirus software issue, but a corrupt microsoft file that I had to re-install. I did a google search for the error code I got and followed the directions for cleaning up and re-installing that file.
I have had this issue for months now and I knew it wasn't a MTC issue but didn't have a clue how to fix it. After reading your post I was able to google the issue and in less than five minutes, save the file I needed to correct the problem. I just wanted to thank you sooo very much. I love MTC but felt like I wasn't able to use it to it's fullest potential. Everyone on this mb is so great and willing to help with everything, but I always felt like a pest having to ask someone to convert an image to .svg or .mtc for me. Again, THANK YOU. I hope everyone else having this problem is able to fix it as easily.
I don't know but I"d email RainyDaze and ask her. Wonder if her email is in her profile. I"ll also check and see if she's on the RAK. If so I can drop her an email.
I am using XP Home service pack 3 I am think some system file has become corrupt. Debating on doing a reinstall or just saying to heck with it and installing windows 7 on this computer.
Ok I got it to work for me in windows Xp home service pack 3. Not the the true fix but it works for me so I a sharing in case it works for others. Go to C:/Programs Files/Make The Cut/ MTC!.exe and then right click on the exe file. Pick properties wait for it to load and then pick compatibility. Check and choose run this program in compatibility mode for windows 95/Windows ME and then click apply and ok. Works fine now go figure. Not sure what the issue is with my XP but this works and that is all I care about hope it helps others too. Please let me know.
humm, so it's definately something in the XP editions you guys are using.
I'm with you, as long as it works who cares. I hope that works for the others as well!!!!! I have to say I find that funny it works that way though because MTC isn't listed as being able to run in 98/ME but yet it runs in XP, Vista, and 7.LOL
Bummmmmmmmer, guess I have to be the problem child, when I changed it to compatibility mode windows 98/windows me I clicked on pixel trace and it shut down the program, zip right off the screen, no error message or nothing.........so had to change it back to windows 95 to even get it to stay on my screen.......
@K-lee were you getting an error message before? I wasn't it would work it would just take forever to load after clicking pixel trace at least 10 to 15 minutes.Plus you had to wait as it would not let you do anything else until it opened.Did yours never open up?I was hoping if it worked for it would work for everyone using XP Home edition service pack 3. :-( MY CPU usage would be at 0 and then go to 99% when I clicked pixel trace. It would act as it was a 16 bit program and load the windows programs to run a 16 bit program so I think they were what was hanging it up.
Tami no error message, would just hang, eventually would say not responding across the top, if I clicked on the mat it would turn my screen completely white......
I have a desktop with Vista and it does exactly the same thing as Tamimatta's, I thought it was the Windows 7 upgrade I did and dropped back down to Vista, but nope same problem. It takes FOREVER, but my laptop running Windows 7 takes no time at all. I've had this problem since the beginning with every update, I just hit the trace and go do something else cause I can't do anything on the computer until it finishes. I like to use the desktop sometimes when I'm designing because the screen is bigger, but it has taken as long as 25 - 30 minutes before the trace box would come up.
