I am pretty new around here and trying to figure out the forum. I have two questions.
1) I clicked on "bookmark this discussion" on a discussion that I wanted to get back to easily. But all it did was put the word [Bookmarked] in front of the title. That discussion is now on the third page of results, and I have to go look for it. I thought Bookmark would keep it at the top of my screen, or that there would be something to click to bring up my bookmarked discussions. I can't find anything like that, am I missing something? I use IE 8 as my browser.
2) Is there a way to see only the new posts since my last visit? Or a "today's posts" option?
Are you signed into the forum when you are viewing the discussions? If you are signed in, the most recent posts that you haven't read will be a different color--usually pink, I think. When you get to the end of the pink ones, you will notice that all the messages have dates last posed that coincide with the date you were last online.
Also, there was some discussion as to how the "boookmark" feature works. One way is to search on "title" with the term Bookmarked.
Unfortunately, searching for 'bookmark' does NOT bring up your bookmarked threads, only those threads that actually have "Bookmark" in their title.
If you want to find it again, you need to remember a word or phrase in the title...
I actually do bookmark or save as 'favorite' certain threads on my regular Internet Service to allow me to find them quickly.
I wonder if it is possible (after the Beta version release) to make a change in the forum where your own [Bookmarked] threads are saved in some way to make them easier to find... Andy?...
I have my forum set to discussions rather than categories. When I log on, I see the latest posts at the very top. When I see a topic that I know I've read, I look under the title of the post where it says: category: started by: comments: last comment: last active: then it says NEW: and if the number is red I click on the number to see who has posted since I last read it. After reading it, that red number goes to zero (0) and is black when I switch back to the discussions. That way I can see if anything new was added since I last looked and who last posted. Well, I hope this is what you were asking! lol
Thanks ladies - I already noticed the red for new posts, but I was wondering if there was a way to view only the new ones. I guess not. I can always browse through to find what I want when Search doesn't work for me, I just couldn't figure out what the use of "Bookmark this discussion" was. Doesn't sound like it really has a use at this point. As Jeanette pointed out, searching for Bookmarked or [Bookmarked] doesn't bring up those discussions.
Oh well, thanks again for the replies, nice to know I wasn't missing something obvious.
Reba1, I just use discussions, it puts all the new posts there, then I just go thru them, don't think I've missed any, they highlight yellow till I read them..........
That's what I was trying to describe, Klee, is if you open to discussions, the newest posts are always the first ones you see. Guess I didn't put it right! lol
